Reds Reds Everywhere

Daddy may be going through some kind of mid-life crisis. To celebrate the life as he knew it, he got Mommy and his best friend visiting from Singapore to go on a little walk with him, two days before he turned 42...
A stroll through Lumpini Park
minus the usual weekend fitness crowd
plus a lot of newcomers
As they left the park and entered Ratchadamri Avenue,
a few signs in a familiar language but not so familiar phrases
The truth for 99 baht?
A beloved landmark sidelined
But they got their message across in very loud and threatening voices
And it terrified adults and babies alike
When will life be back to normal again in the City of Angels?
How long more before we can start the cleanup?

Thanks for stopping by. You can read more on the background and latest happenings about the political crisis in Bangkok at the online microsite from the main English newspaper in Thailand (http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/thaksin-judgement-day/).

Are those Chinese words part of the protest. It was very brave of your husband to go out during the protest.

Yes, Ann, those Chinese banners were part of the protest, and seemed most prevalent in the area where we left Lumpini Park and entered the blockade zone. Most of the red shirts were supposed to be darker-skinned Thai-Burmese (working class), as opposed to the fair-skinned Thai-Chinese (merchant class). That is why we were taken aback, as the Chinese banners were among the first we encountered. I would not rule them out as props intended for the diplomats who visited and the international media.

What a lot of red you captured there! Fabulous. I really like the shot of the Four Seasons hotel, and how in focus it is with the sea of blurred red in the background.
