Sunday Market

Not far from where we live is Talad Klong Toey, one of the cheapest markets in Bangkok catering to her poorer residents. Over 100,000 people - most of whom are rural migrants from Northeast Thailand - live in one of the city's largest and oldest slums about 200m from the market.
You can buy all sorts of live poultry here, and have them slaughtered and cleaned before you finish your breakfast.
For those with stronger stomaches, how about some grasshoppers...
... crickets...
... or silkworm for a wholesome delicious meal?
These bees did not keep away potential buyers.
A stall that specialized in the basic ingredients for the quintessential Thai kitchen.
The best looking - and most expensive! - tomatoes I could find. But they look too pretty to be diced up for my special pasta sauce ;-)
No longer "kept in the dark", these mushrooms were being cleaned and readied for the wok.
There were hundreds of these rice snacks in the trays, but we could not buy any as they were all pre-ordered and sold out.

While casual visitors may feel intimidated by the sights, sounds and smells that borders on total chaos, experienced buyers return regularly to Talad Klong Toey and navigate the seemingly haphazard collection of stalls to find the best bargains.

I've heard of fried grasshoppers and crickets... hmmm. I think I could go through life without trying those and I'd be okay. :) Have you tried?

Wow!! Thanks for sharing your part of the world, though I'm not sure grasshoppers, crickets or worms are my cup of tea :o/ But, I won't knock it, until I try it :) Maybe someday!

As a vegetarian the only thing that attracted me was the delicious looking tomatoes. It was hard watching the ducks treated that way. Hope they had a quick death.

I have been to that market on some of my trips to Bangkok! Your shots are making my mouth water. Well, the insects, not so much. But the spicy peppers! Yes!

I'd like to try those insects! ;)
I heard they're high in protein?!?

I would love to stroll through this market. No, I would not eat worms, but to see this in person must be amazing.
