Chinese New Year @ Bangkok Chinatown

We used to think the Chinese New Year atmosphere in Thailand left much to be desired. Guess we were looking at the wrong places ;-P This morning, CNN ran a story on Chinese New Year celebrations around the world, and street scenes from Bangkok Chinatown was among their picks. So Mommy decided to take me along for a look...
Are we ready for the sights and sounds?
No prizes for guessing what the favourite colour is for decorating the house this time of year
The Chinese word for "fish" sounds the same as "surplus", so it is a popular symbol of prosperity (年年有余)
Sending some food to deities and ancestors...
... and burning some money to deposit into their accounts in the First Netherworld's Bank
No Gucci or Chanel for your typical CNY outfit; instead, anything with gold and crimson hues will do just fine
"Waxed Duck" - a very traditional dish to be served at Reunion Dinners

Thanks for sharing these colourful and to me very exotic photos. I tried to look up waxed duck and I couldn't really find a recipe, do you know how it is made? I gathered that it is preserved with a mix of spices and salt which gives it the waxy look, is that correct?
