The Paper Mama Photo Challenge: Self

Every once in a while, Mommy will squeeze some precious time out and just hang with my elder sister, Janelle, so she does not feel neglected. Don't worry, I can entertain myself for a short while.

On the road again...

We are leaving tomorrow for a week's vacation in Phuket where I was born. Mommy doesn't want to travel too far as I am still little. So after returning from Phuket, we head back to Singapore for two weeks to visit family and friends. Janelle is bubbling over with anticipation, as she misses her Singapore friends very much.

A little girl who grows up to be a friend

[Mommy's turn on the soapbox today...]

Visitors to the blog will be forgiven, if they do not realize I also have another teenage daughter, Janelle. You were once my most willing model, but now you shoo me away as if I were the paparazzi. One moment, you're my number fan; the next, you're my harshest critic. Schizophrenic? No, you're just being a teenager. I've been through that phase too...
Don't think that I have forgotten about you, even though your little sister takes up almost all my attention, energy and time. I understand that you need your own space and freedom. Often you may be frustrated with some of our decisions, but as a family, there are some things we simply need to do together.
The other day I practically dragged you kicking and screaming to the salon. Soon, your scowls and grumbles subsided and in no time, we were chatting and giggling at funny hairstyles on the magazine pages.
You love to text, whether on the computer or using your phone. You can always drop me an SMS; I'll try to understand the meaning of your message, even if I have to Google every other acronym you use ;-P

I'll always be there for you. If you don't want me to nag, feel free to approach me as a friend who can share your troubles and sadness, or if you just need a listening ear or a shoulder to lean on sometimes...

Potty Time!

Mommy was almost delirious, when I finally used the potty on my own, after driving everyone else insane with repeated viewings of "Elmo's Potty Time". All I actually did were 1) picked up the potty and pee-peed in it and 2) let mommy put me on the toilet bowl using the training seat while I poo-pooed.

I suppose we have tried these so many times without success, nobody had any expectations. Yesterday, after placing me on the potty, Mommy held me and sang and talked to me, making me very comfortable and relaxed. When I had finished and started to get up, she held on to the potty and kept praising me for doing a good job. Both of us clapped and laughed with each other. I can do it!

Relax

What helps me relax? Well, I love ice... I mean I love to suck and crunch ice cubes, and Mommy loves crushed ice with ice cream and red bean toppings. This little concoction from Parferio ranks right up there as a summer special and ravishing refreshment!

Airborne Adventure

The windy conditions from the day before grounded the HiFlyers Balloon. Besides Andre who had developed a sudden fondness for bowling, we all hoped for more stable conditions, so that we could go up today.
The still crisp morning air that greeted us on the way to Life Park was a good sign...
... and Daddy reassured me that it would be a safe ride, as he would be by my side.
Yea! All cleared for takeoff...
... as the tether was extended, the balloon rose steadily skyward...
We're airborne!
Let's smile at the camera.
I can see my own eyes...
Ahhhh... the balloon is swaying!
The view was spectacular...
... and there's our resort!

Moment of Solitude

We all need a quiet moment every now and then. Mommy is usually busy the whole day taking care of us, even on weekends. She needs a break too but the only time she can really sit down by herself and sip a mug of Milo and read the paper or a magazine is when I finally fall asleep at night. Those few minutes are so precious.

Higher, Mommy, higher...

We found another recreational spot at the Laguna Beach Resort kids club, where I can surround myself with a thousand balls or just enjoy a quiet moment on the swing with Mommy.

A day out with Mommy & Daddy

Janelle and Andre went to Hae Bin and Jun's house on Saturday, so I had Daddy and Mommy all to myself. After dropping my brother and sister off at Boat Lagoon, we went to Central Festival Phuket.

Daddy and Mommy had lunch at the food hall, while I took a nap in my stroller. For once, they could eat in peace, without Janelle and Andre picking the best bits from their plates. Daddy had beef noodle soup and kway chup, while Mommy ate chicken rice; she thought about ordering from the popular "rice-and-pick-your-own-dishes" stall, but something did not smell right.

We spent a few hours window shopping. Daddy was exhausted, so we took a rest by the artificial pond and had some snacks. There were many beautiful Japanese carp in the pond. They did not seem very interested in the fish food the mall staff fed them. But when Daddy threw in some peanut skin, they came zipping in and made big splashes fighting over this "exotic" cuisine.

When we got to the top, Mommy let me play with the bell. Boy, was it loud! It was almost as loud as my crying, after Mommy hit the bell with the hammer and gave me quite a scare.

Finger Lickin' Good

I was very cranky yesterday. Daddy had to rush to his early morning meeting, and he did not have enough time to brush the dogs' fur. Mommy always finishes all the household chores by mid morning, so she can attend to me the rest of the day. She is very busy, and that extra bit was the straw that broke the camel's back.

My incessant whining and crying agitated her even more. I was crying for her to hold me but she had not finished her work. My crying spells went on and on throughout the afternoon for no apparent reason. Mommy tried all kinds of ways to calm me down; she had to multitask and eat her lunch and feed me (not fried chicken!) at the same time.

There were a few quiet moments in between, when I sat and sucked my fingers. Time to get me a pacifier?
